COVID - we are not moving out of it, we are approaching the centre!

All my reading on the subject (and, that's a lot) flattening the curve is important to protect our hospital System for the next round!  We are not moving out of the #COVID pandemic, we are approaching the centre of the forest.

As we garner from considerable history on pandemics, round two will be bigger and much meaner than round one!

Our biggest problem is politics.  The provincial Conservatives who were put into office by Bell Media are sensitive to Donald Trump's dilemma on trying to get re-elected in the USA and his thrust on re-starting the economy.  Canadian politicians with the notable exception of Ontario and Quebec are siding mindlessly with Trump's action in this direction.

If Trump turns on the economy doing away with the meagre show of social distancing in the US,
it will be tantamount to mass murder.   Christian fundamentalists are the heart of the Conservative movement.  They are your anti-vax people; the people who support herd immunization as a means to do away with the Virus.  They tend to think the pile of bodies are someone else's but, they will find this Virus does not discriminate and quite possibly can mutate before a vax is found.

As of now, there is no proof the serum transplants with antibodies are going to work as a cure although, they just may.  Another thing, there is no proof or even indications that the antibodies produced during an infection will in any way stop a new infection.

Today, news out that there are 5 new kinds of COVID (SARS) virus found in Bats.  Work is being done now to find out how quickly they will transfer to humans and other mammals.

US employees at oil sands allowed to skip isolation when returning to work.

Kenny and his nefarious "war room" have declared oil workers as been "essential"  among other things, they will not have to follow the isolation and separation rules!   The industry uses staff from the USA who are in transit regularly.

Kenny has just put the lives of all Albertans at risk and opened the province for a full explosion of the Virus! You can't protect yourself from this.  The UCP is a greater danger to our health than the Novid 19 Virus!

And, with 3.5 million unemployed in the USA, the highest number ever, there will be pressure on the US companies in the Tar Sands to employ US.

This has happened before, the Drilling companies hired over a thousand from the oil patch in Oklahoma which was on hard times.  When busted, the Conservatives sent lawyers into the oil patch with citizenship papers for them to fill out.  Oil defended itself by says it was better to hire experienced out of Oklahoma than newbies out of Alberta.

Reasons not to go to the USA!

From There was a CBC news article day-before-yesterday that interviewed a Doctor in Washington who explained the US system makes it dam near impossible to track viruses. This was in answer to the units Trump said he was putting on roadsides next to large gatherings. The physician went so far as to site the universal coverage in Canada making these controls possible.

US has done almost no testing. Trump refused the WHO test kits, insisted they use only US-made ones. Which had to be made - the first lot proved to not work, so they had to start making others. Then Clinics were not permitted to test without Govt approval, & clinics were reporting asking & being refused.

Doctors have publicly stated that the numbers of verified cases being released are a very gross underestimate of the number of actual cases. And without that accuracy, there is no tracking, no prevention. It is a mess there imo.

Also comparison of numbers, ages etc is not consistent between countries on who gets tested, whether there are symptoms or not. They are speculating that high death rates maybe related to factors like young people having few symptoms & so never get tested some places - if young not tested & only positives are among older people, then death rates will appear higher.

Lots we can't say yet - except to help Prevent by using what we do know about prevention!
